#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 19

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 19

Scripture: Romans 10:14 "But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?"

Encouragement: We have such a great opportunity, privilege and responsibility to invite many lost friends and family to meet with Jesus this Easter at the Civic Center. Go after it! Maximize this opportunity! God has sovereignly placed people around you so you can move into their lives with gospel intentionality. Remember Jesus' comforting words, "And remember, I am with you always..." Doesn't that give you confidence? Jesus is with you as you reach out with the gospel. So who will you invite? Who will you pray for? Who will you tell about the resurrection of Jesus?

Prayer: Pray for a loving heart that greatly desires to see people far from God come to saving faith in Jesus. Ask God to grow your heart for the lost. Ask for wisdom and boldness for everyone in City Church in sharing our faith, inviting friends to Easter and living called, not employed.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 18

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 18

Scripture: Proverbs 24:3 "A house is built by wisdom, and it is established by understanding;"

Encouragement: Great works and great results stem from great wisdom; and God is the source of all wisdom. Maybe you just don't know what to do in life, in some big decision at work or how to share your faith with a co-worker? If you lack wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you (James 1:5).

Prayer: Pray for God's wisdom for all our leaders and volunteers as they plan to serve at Easter at the Civic Center.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 17

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 17

Scripture: Mark 3: 14 & 15 "He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons."

Encouragement: As we get ready to serve His Majesty during Easter at the Civic Center, we must be mindful that we can only be effective witnesses for Him when we have first cultivated the habit of spending time with the Lord daily. If you want to bring an everlasting truth to an ever-changing culture today, then 'being with Jesus' needs to be your first appointment of the day. In a sense, God is waiting for you.

Prayer: Ask the Lord for the help of the Holy Spirit for you and everyone in City Church to be consistently in prayer and in the Scriptures each day.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 16

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 16

Scripture: Hebrew 11:6 "Now without faith it is impossible to please God, for the one who draws near to Him must believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him."

Encouragement: It is impossible to please God without faith. Ultimately, saving faith is a gift from God (Eph. 2:8) and His Spirit grows our faith through interaction with His word. Romans 10:17 states, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." The more we faithfully and regularly interact with the Bible and live out our faith each day; the more we will see our faith grow.

Prayer: Pray for grace to be diligent in studying and hearing God's word. Pray for yourself and every member of City Church to crave the Bible.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 15

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 15

Scripture: 1 Samuel 15:22 "Then Samuel said: Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? Look: to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay attention is better than the fat of rams."

Encouragement: God desires and demands our personal obedience to His word. Jesus taught us that if we love Him we will follow His commands. God did not send Jesus to die so we can keep on living or ourselves. We are purchased and our lives are no longer our own. We are His! Following Jesus is a full surrender to a conquering King. Let us not abuse God's grace, but instead let His grace motivate us to obediently follow Jesus into the world.

Prayer: Ask the Holy Spirit to help you and everyone at City Church grow in willing obedience to His word.

Fasting on Good Friday

Fasting on Good Friday

Good Friday is on March 25, 2016. All City Church Owners are invited to fast together as a church on Good Friday.

Why do we fast?

1.    Fasting focuses our hearts on Jesus. Fasting on Good Friday will help us focus our attention and prayers on the temptation, suffering and sacrifice of Jesus. Every time you feel a pang of hunger, be reminded about Jesus and His sacrifice for you.

2.    Fasting reminds us of God’s heart to seek and save the lost. In the New Testament, fasting is usually connected with the spread of the gospel and seeing more of the gospel’s effect on our lives. Since Easter is one of our largest opportunities to reach people in Tallahassee with the gospel, we should be fasting and praying together for this.

What is fasting?

Fasting usually involves abstaining from food altogether (or in some partial way) for a specific period of time. We don’t fast to look or feel more spiritual. Jesus taught that When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting…17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”(Matt. 6:16-18)

Fasting is a simple and earthly way for each of us to express our dependence on God and belief in His word. "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." (Matt. 4:4)

Fasting is not a form of self-sacrifice to impress God, force His hand or to earn our way into heaven. We cannot fast our way to forgiveness, or earn our salvation. We cannot fast anyone else into heaven, either. No amount of sacrifice from us can ever atone for our sins and reconcile us with the Lord. Redemption is only possible by God’s grace, through faith in Jesus Christ alone. So let's fast together this Good Friday. Let us remember Jesus and faithfully pray for God to advance the gospel in our city this Easter through City Church.

Pray and consider fasting with City Church for part, or all, of Friday the 25th. Then make plans to join City Church for Good Friday at Ruby Diamond Auditorium on March 25th at 6:30pm. Our collective time of fasting will end with the service as we reflect on the death of Jesus Christ and look forward to celebrating His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 14

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 14

Scripture: Matthew 11:29 "All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves."

Encouragement: At Easter as well as every day, we are celebrating our Lord who alone lived a perfect and sinless life as our Redeemer. He has graciously called us to live as He lived, by the power of His Spirit. One key attribute of our Lord is His humility. We too, must walk in humility of heart. We will, the closer our heart grows more like His.

Prayer: Ask the Lord for grace to be humble and gentle in heart like Him. Ask the Lord to show how you can best serve and advance the gospel this Easter (Mark 10:45).

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 13

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 13

Scripture: Matthew 6:20 & 21 "But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don't break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Encouragement: What we spend our money on shows what is important to us. Jesus made a clear link between our hearts (the state of our spiritual growth) and our money. We are so dear to God that He paid the ultimate price for our souls with the life of His only Son. God did not send us a cheap, knock-off Redeemer. He gave us His most previous Son, sparing no expense; even while we were His enemies.

Prayer: Ask the Lord for grace and wisdom to effectively manage your resources for His glory. Ask the Lord to grow your love for Him and fora  greater appreciation for His love and compassion for you.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 12

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 12

Scripture: Ephesians 5:16 "making the most of the time, because the days are evil."

Encouragement: What we spend our time on matters. It is not even our time is it? Every minute belongs to God and is a gift from Him. We need God's grace to center our lives on God and his mission. Maximize every opportunity God gives you!

Prayer: Ask God for wisdom for effective time management, prioritizing the things of God first before others. Ask God to show you where you have been wasting time on things that really don't matter much for eternity.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 11

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 11

Scripture: Ephesians 6:11 "Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil."

Encouragement: We have the responsibility to resist the devil by putting on the whole armor of God as prescribed in Ephesians 6:11-18. But don't forget the last part...then 'stand.' Stand in the gap for your lost friends. Stand up rather than bow down to the temptations of satan. Standing does not mean we attack others with the gospel. Standing might mean humbly speaking truth to power at work, standing up for what is right or upholding your belief in Jesus being the only way to Heaven, in an increasingly hostile culture. Put on the full armor of God and then stand today...not the other way around.

Prayer: Reflect on Ephesians 6:11-18 and ask the Lord for His help to consistently put on the whole armor of God. Ask the Lord to help everyone in City Church to be awake to their responsibility to take on the full armor and stand in the gap.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 10

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 10

Scripture: Matthew 25:37-40 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'"

Encouragement: According to Matthew 25:35-40, when we give and care for God's people in Tallahassee or across the globe, we are doing it for Jesus. Pastor Dean has set a goal for City Church to give $100,000 to missions this year. We can do our part by being generous and faithful in our tithes and offerings (Malachi 3:10). Giving to missions, to the local church and towards the welfare of others is giving to Jesus Christ and is a huge part of bringing God's Kingdom to the ends of the Earth.

Prayer: Ask the Lord for grace to be a cheerful giver. Ask that He will give His people a heart for Him to give with delight for the needs of the saints and the expansion of His kingdom.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 9

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 9

Scripture: Acts 4:13 "After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly."

Encouragement: All over the world, there is a growing increase in the persecution of Christians. What can we do? According to Acts 4:13, we can pray for all our Christian brothers and sisters all over the world. Our prayers can cause them to receive strength from the Holy Spirit so they can declare God's word with boldness. Remember to pray daily for Christians all over the world.

Prayer: Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering (Heb. 13:3). Ask the Lord to give persecuted Christians around the world His power, strength and courage to continue to live for Christ and declare His gospel even in the face of harsh persecution.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 8

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 8

Scripture: Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Encouragement: Our Lord made it clear that we can never become effective witnesses for Him in the world without the presence and help of the Holy Spirit. In fact, He stated in John 16:7 that it is profitable for us that He goes away so that the Comforter/Helper (Holy Spirit) can be sent to us. It is therefore important for us to understand the role of the Holy Spirit in our walk with God and continually seek His presence and help.

Prayer: Thank God the Father for the gift of His Spirit. Acknowledge your dependency on God and ask for the help of the Holy Spirit to live for Christ and to be an effective witness for Him.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 7

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 7

Scripture: Acts 28:31 "He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ- with all boldness and without hindrance."

Exhortation: It has been stated that a secular society will never become indifferent to Christianity but will rather become more hostile to it. That is why we need to continually pray for our pastors and leaders at all levels for the power of the Holy Spirit to declare God's Word uncompromisingly and unapologetically with boldness and without hindrance.

Prayer: Pray for the Pastors, elders, staff, deacons and City Group leaders at City Church to declare God's Word with boldness and without hindrance by the help of the Holy Spirit.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 6

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 6

Scripture: Matthew 6:15 "But if you don't forgive people, your Father will not forgive your wrongdoing."

Exhortation: We can never walk with and grow in Christ the way the Lord desires if we harbor unforgiveness, bitterness or hate towards anyone. Others may have hurt us deeply and God knows that. Vengeance is His not ours. When we forgive, we are able to enjoy unhindered fellowship with the Lord. By forgiving others, we allow the Lord to settle the score on our behalf.

Prayer: Think of the person who has wronged you and ask for grace to forgive him/her. Start to pray for them and bless them. When Job prayed for his friends that wronged him, God restored him (Job 42:10).

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 5

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 5

Scripture: John 15:12-14 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command."

Exhortation: One of the keys to being people after God's heart is to know what is important to God. God created us to love Him because we are the object of His love. The principal proof that we love and obey Him is how we love others. Walking in love is a personal choice enabled by the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Ask the Lord for His help to walk in and grow in the love of God that comes from the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). Pray for your enemies and those that are difficult for you to love; that the love of Christ may flow through you.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 4

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 4

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:15 & 16 "But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy."

Exhortation: Jesus paid the ultimate price for the salvation of our souls with His precious life. As a result, our lives are no longer ours. Our lives are meant to reflect His holiness. Our desire should therefore be to continually grow more like Jesus; living a distinct life that points to a distinct God.

Prayer: Ask the Lord for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit of holiness upon His Church and upon you (Romans 1:4).

This devotional is from our #TallyEaster prayer guide. We will be handing them out weekly at our Sunday services- stop by Guest Services this Sunday to grab a copy.

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 3

#TallyEaster Prayer Guide Day 3

Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:21 "So if anyone purifies himself from anything dishonorable, he will be a  special instrument, set apart, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work."

Exhortation: As we prepare for Easter this year, it is very important that we prepare our hearts to join Jesus in His mission here in our city. Consequently, for the next couple of weeks leading to Easter, we will be examining ourselves and realigning our hearts so that we can be instruments in the Redeemer's hands.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to reveal Himself to everyone in City Church and help us purge ourselves of evil thoughts, words and deeds; to reflect Him well in our city.

GOT QUESTIONS?

A RECAP OF SESSIONS ROAD Q&A

Q: What will parking be like at Sessions Road?
A: In one word, “interesting.” However, we are currently constructing a new parking lot next to the main building, and parking will be provided in the main lot as well as along Sessions Road. The parking team and building team are working to ensure we accommodate all guests and provide ample parking space for your family and friends.

Q: Hasn’t there been talking of a Phase Two building at Sessions?
A: Yes. We hope to eventually begin construction on phase two of the Sessions Road campus plans. This building will serve next generation ministries, including Kids and Youth, as well as provide some classroom and office space.

Q: What about taking on debt? Will we incur new debt because of this next phase in the future?
A: The leaders of our church are committed to being good stewards of finances at City Church. It is our hope and prayer that a Phase Two building would be fully funded before construction begins, and we would continue to pay down the existing debt incurred for Phase One of the campus.

Q: Would City Church ever start a school at Sessions Road?
A: At this time, no plans are in the future for a school associated with City Church. We are grateful for a great city with quality schools, and hope that you will support these schools as they teach and build up the next generation in Tallahassee.
